The Brownsville Preservation Society was founded in October 2014 by a group of new and lifelong Brownsville residents, who recognized the need to save and repair historic homes throughout the city.

PROTECT. As an exclusively charitable and educational organization, we seek to protect areas which represent or reflect elements of Brownsville’s unique cultural, social, economic, political, and architectural history. We strive to cultivate an interest in local preservation by engaging the public about benefits to the community from perpetuation of these areas.

RESTORE. Our members are committed to revitalizing our community by restoring homes of historic and architectural significance. We seek to promote local pride and combat neighborhood deterioration through educational workshops as well as hands-on clean-up and restoration of homes, yards and alleyways.

HOUSE. Brownsville Preservation Society promotes the use of historic districts and landmarks for the education, pleasure and welfare of the people of Brownsville. We will protect and restore area homes to create and maintain affordable housing for qualified applicants.

Have you seen this incredible restoration project at Market Square by local preservationist and BPS member Larry Lof?

The Hanson House, built ~1870 for Martin Hanson, an architect and builder, who also served as a city commisioner and fire marshal. It is now the home of  Mendez Law Firm.
