Project UPKEEP
GOALS
Assist Brownsville homeowners who might not have means to improve their homes' exteriors.
Promote community pride and combat neighborhood deterioration.
Encourage civic engagement with Brownsville youth through hands-on home improvement
projects.
STRATEGY
Assist local homeowners by raising funds to carry out a minimum of five UPKEEP projects
annually.
Engage corporate and community sponsors to help offset the cost of minor construction repairs, supplies and equipment.
Partner with local youth volunteer groups to carry out UPKEEP projects on weekends and between academic sessions.
How Does It Work?
Brownsville Preservation Society (BPS) sponsors Upkeep projects for older homes. Upkeep offers homeowners a range of assistance options to make minor exterior repairs to their house. Our primary focus is to assist low- and fixed-income homeowners improve their homes by supplying them with everything needed for their improvement project.
Applicant Requirements
1. Applicants cannot have received grant funds from BPS in the past ten years.
2. Applicants must provide proof of income for all persons of legal age (18+), who are employed and reside at the property.
3. Applicant must provide proof of ownership with a Homestead Exemption.
House Requirements
1. House must be located on Brownsville City limits and be at least 40 years old.
2. House cannot have vinyl, tiling, or other materials covering the wood siding.
3. House must be one floor in height. (Properties with a raised foundation will be inspected by BPS staff to determine eligibility.)
4. BPS will repair rotted woodwork to the extent our project budget allows.
5. BPS will not repair any termite damage that is deemed excessive.
