Brownsville Preservation Society of Brownsville, Texas is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to protecting and restoring structures within the city’s historic districts.

An additional goal is to conduct small-scale projects of $5,000 or less, which would include aesthetic upgrades to historical homes such as replacement of siding, painting, and/or re-roofing. The ultimate goal is to create a revolving fund of $100,000.00, which will allow BPS to purchase historic homes, rehabilitate them, and sell them to individuals who are looking for a historic home. The money from the sale will be put back into the corpus to fund a similar project in perpetuity.

The Society offers community membership levels vary from a $25 individual membership to a $500 supporting member. BPS maintains Facebook and Instagram pages. The Facebook page has approximately 2000 followers and 500 Instagram  followers. Past newlsetters were published online via Issuu

The Brownsville Preservation Society was founded in October 2014 by a group of new and lifelong Brownsville residents, who recognized the need to save and repair historic homes throughout the city. As an exclusively charitable and educational organization, we seek to protect areas which represent or reflect elements of Brownsville’s unique cultural, social, economic, political, and architectural history.

Our members are committed to revitalizing our community by restoring homes of historic and architectural significance. We seek to promote local pride and combat neighborhood deterioration.

Brownsville Preservation Society promotes the use of historic districts and landmarks for the education, pleasure, and welfare of the people of Brownsville. We will protect and restore historic homes and structures to create culturally vibrant neighborhoods and enhance community pride.
